Swimming Lessons & Instruction

Golden State Lifeguards is now proud to partner with KidSwim.org for kids swimming instruction in the Los Angeles region, San Fernando Valley and adjacent areas. Now parents have one of the most reputable organizations to turn to for quality and comprehensive swim lessons for their kids. All of their instructors have been hand picked and screened to ensure that students get the best.

Our combined goal is for children to be watersafe and to instill confidence while in the water. This is paramount to the overall success of our strategic partnership. We both agree that drowning prevention is number one priority!

As the premier private lifeguard provider in Southern California, we are constantly hearing stories of drownings and are often heartbroken by the first hand accounts. The tragedy regarding drownings is that it is 100% preventable with the right supervision and ensuring kids are watersafe. No child has to drown, PERIOD!!

Instructors can come to your home and teach your kids in a familiar environment. This allows kids to retain what they have learned without distractions.

The KIDWSIM Method

Together, we have created The kidSwim Method™ which actually details how we utilize a developmental approach in order to maximize effective and positive learning for each and every child we work with.  Aligning with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ guidelines for developmental milestones, we address swim skills in the same format that they do, from a motor/communication/sensory framework. Our developmental swim method approaches teaching kids to love the water at each age and stage, focusing on specific motor/communication/sensory skill development.  Our program is designed to enhance and support those skills and that growth. In addition, we add safety words and physical skills that are developmentally appropriate to the age group.

This is the key to real learning — to meet each child at where they are developmentally.  Once they’ve gained confidence and acquired specific water skills, we can push them beyond their comfort zone.

Services & Pricing

Parent/Child Classes – 5 to 18 months

Our unique program which utilizes The kidSwim Method™ teaches motor/sensory/communication skills that are age and stage appropriate in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. Safety words and basic safety skills are also incorporated as we lay the foundation for what eventually becomes a confident, relaxed and water safe swimmer. Games, songs and toys help to keep your baby engaged as well as building strength, coordination and create problem solving activities that also help to facilitate safety.

Parent/Child Transition Classes – 19-30 months

Continuing on with our kidSwim Method™, this program is designed for children that are transitioning out of the parent/child program and are almost ready to shift to individual lessons. The skills are more advanced as children begin to work for short periods of time with the instructor one-on-one, while the parent or guardian is present. Theses classes are great for children who still want some of the security of mom or dad nearby, but are too advanced for the more basic structure. Many toddlers in this class do begin swimming distances, rolling and floating, jumping and swimming independently and diving down to retrieve toys on the bottom. Safety skills are more advanced and involve several steps and more challenging problem solving.

1:1 Lessons Ages 2 and Up

The foundation of our program since 2001, kidSwim is incredibly proud of our 1:1 lessons for children. We adhere to the 1:1 ratio for both safety and consistency. We want our instructor’s eyes to always be on your child, no divided attention. Additionally, all children deserve to learn at their pace and in a calm setting with minimal distractions. Our instructors develop relationships with each child, getting to know their personalities, likes and dislikes, favorite superheroes and foods, and what ride is their favorite at Disneyland. Utilizing our kidSwim Method™ at this stage is more about motor and communication skills – both fine and gross motor as well as layered commands, problem solving such as encouraging children to think several steps ahead: ‘after you leave the wall, where will you swim to? what will you do when you get there? what should you do if you’re tired before you get there?. These types of conversations and questions are crucial to a child’s development and enhances their ability to rely on themselves when they will actually need to figure out what to do. Additionally, we focus on building strength, coordination and endurance, teaching all four strokes with correct form and a major focus on regulated breathing.
