Water Watcher

Golden State Lifeguards in its commitment to prevent needless drownings is offering community Water Watcher seminars that aim to teach the basics of effectively being a pool monitor in the absence of a trained lifeguard. Please keep in mind that a pool monitor should never be a replacement for a certified and trained lifeguard.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under 4 years of age. The tragedy is that drownings (fatal & non-fatal) are 100% preventable! The cause for drownings can be attributed to lack of adult supervision, lack of pool fencing and even lack of door alarms.

Another component that adds to this seminar is getting participants to sign up for CPR classes. CPR can and does save lives!!

Our Water Watcher seminars will cover topics such as:

  • Drowning Statistics
  • The Mechanics of Drowning
  • How to conduct surveillance
  • How To Avoid Distractions
  • What to do to prevent drowning
  • How to conduct a reach assist
  • How to call for help

All participants will receive a bag of pool safety materials and a Water Watcher lanyard that can be used when called upon to monitor swimmers.

Cost: $25.00 per person

Class running time is between 1½  hours to 2 hours long

We can provide seminars to moms groups, PTA’s and more!
